Jonathan Priestnall was a British maker born in 1819 who produced 300 violins in his lifetime (amongst other instruments). This violin is stamped number 155, dated 1892, and is branded on the back in 2 places and inside the instrument. A lovely red-brown varish with a golden ground. Prettily figured one piece slab back. Responsive with a warm, strong, even tone.
